Mikey & Justin

I have known Mikey and Justin for nearly TEN YEARS! They’re two my best friends and favorite people in the world. I swear fate brought Mikey and I together by placing our college freshman year dorm rooms across the hall from each other. We hit it off quickly. Justin, who went to a different school two hours away, come to visit often. From the get-go it’s always been Mikey AND Justin. I’m so grateful to have them in my life.

When Justin asked if I could take engagement photos of them of course my answer was a resounding “heck yeah, baby!”

For their session, we originally discussed going to a local garden that’s known for it’s perfectly curated scenery, but despite the gorgeous landscape, it wasn’t really “them.” Also, it was really cold, windy and wet that day.

Something that I really believe is important in any photo session – location, location, location! Your photos should reflect who you are and for these two, home is where the heart is.

They LOVE their home – their condo along the Christiana riverfront in Wilmington, Delaware literally looks like a spread out of a West Elm magazine. It’s perfectly curated with earthy colors and greenery, featuring a floor-to-ceiling plant wall that I have been obsessed with for years. But aesthetic aside, it’s also where these two feel comfortable.

They play video games together (lots of Pokemon), watch Big Brother, host friends from all over and occasionally make home-made kombucha. Their two Alaskan Klee Kai dogs, North and Dez scamper around the place while their calico cat, Pearl, naps on the couch.

It only made sense to do a lifestyle in-home session with these two.

In just a few short months our whole crew will be together in the gorgeous Terrain at Styers in Glenn Mills, Pennsylvania to celebrate them becoming Mr. and Mr. finally! I get to give a speech at their wedding and holy guacamole it’s going to be a zinger!

Oh and as a bonus, at the very bottom you’ll find two #TBT photos from way-back-when.

One of the things I hope you’ll notice in this gallery is that while some of the photos are similar, they have subtle differences. A look to the left, a glance to the right, a laugh or even eye-roll – these tiny movements make each photo unique and special. It’s something I work with all of my clients to achieve.

But don’t worry, I’ll help you get there!

I conduct most of my session in a more photojournalistic way – candid, unposed, natural. But in order to achieve that I’ll give you directions or tasks so you don’t stand there uncomfortably in front of the camera. Seriously, everybody has a totally different level of comfort in front of the camera and I’ll work with you to make sure you feel as comfortable as possible. Sometimes that means veering away from the candid and going for more posed looks. This session showcases a combination of candid and posed.

And as promised, a few throwbacks:
